We have had a very busy and productive year in 2018.
A HUGE thank you to all who have partnered with us to make this possible. Your prayers, financial blessings, and donations that were collected to bring with us, were such a blessing to so many.
We started the year off by taking a trip to Uganda at the end of January and into February. We serve in smaller villages that we have to fly a small plane into. Our main work has been focused in a village that we have grown to love, called, Karamoja. We have partnered with another ministry called Ezekiel 37 Ministry. We have been actively involved with the very first school built in Karamoja, called Akigyeno, which means Hope. Our ministry, Compassion's Call, is sponsoring 3 children now, so that they can attend school. Education is a key necessity for any child wanting to break the poverty cycle. Akigyeno is a Christian school, and the children are learning English. They are also being fed breakfast and lunch, and believe me, their plates are licked clean!
In May, we went back to Karamoja for the dedication and opening of the Akigyeno. We had school supplies and underwear (many of the children didn't have any), as well as school uniforms, handmade by a local lady.
The celebration was wonderful, as all of the surrounding villages joined in. To have a school in this village was clearly a miracle come true! God is so good!
Every visit we make to Karamoja, we also visit some of the other villages in the area. We teach Bible lessons under a tree, and they are eager to learn. We literally are bringing the Good News to unreached people...People who had been labeled as "forgotten".....But we say, "Forgotten no more"!
We had the privilege of passing a new outfit and sandals out to each student. Many had never worn shoes before, and had to get used to having them on their feet.
Karamoja is near and dear to our hearts, and we have felt a strong calling to continue working in this village along side of our friends from Ezekiel 37 Ministry. God willing, our next planned trip there, will be in March of 2019.
In June, we went with a small team to Cambodia, where we have served several times in the past, with our missionary friend Lidia. We spent most of our time running wellness clinics for adults and children, and teaching good hand washing, and teeth brushing, to children. Over the counter medications were given out as needed, as well as bars of soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. We also shampooed children's hair and had a fun day making crafts and eating ice cream.
We have served in Cambodia four or five times now, and just love the children, who we have built lasting relationships with. Many of the children have learned English and have learned so many Bible stories and Biblical principles, that they themselves teach other children in surrounding villages.
At the end of September, we had our second annual Compassion's Call banquet. It was much larger than our first one and we hope it grows even larger next year. We added a Chinese auction this year, that turned out to be a huge success and so much fun. Our goal was to raise $6000, so that we could build an all purpose building in Karamoja, Uganda. One that we felt would serve as a shelter from the sun for many activities, such as the children eating breakfast and lunch, parent's meetings, recess, and most importantly, church services for the community.
The teachers were holding church services in one of the school classrooms on Sunday mornings, and they were inviting the parents to join the children. Much to our surprise, they started coming until there was no more room inside the classroom, and parents and children were gathering outside the door and windows to hear the gospel and sing worship songs! Truly a miracle!
We were just in awe at what the Lord did that evening through all of you, our amazing and faithful supporters. We surpassed our goal to nearly double, and immediately mailed the check to start the building. God is on the move in a big way in Karamoja, and we are so honored and blessed to be a part of it. Thank you so much for your generosity and obedience in giving to bless so many people, and allowing us to "GO", as the Lord directs us. You are making a difference in so many lives, and we know that God will bless you for it.
